1. Warm-up
Dynamic warm-up and sprints
10 min0:00 - 10:00
Foul line to the outfield grass.
- Lunges, carioca, A-skips
- Three build-up sprints
Coaching points
- Full range of motion
- Sprints at 70, 85, then 95 percent
2. Skill
Long toss progression
12 min10:00 - 22:00
Partners on the foul line.
- Start at 60 feet, back up to each player's comfortable distance
- Finish with 10 throws on a line back in
Coaching points
- Use the legs, not just the arm
- Pitchers follow their own throwing program
3. Drill
Infield and outfield defense
15 min22:00 - 37:00
Infielders at positions with a fungo hitter; outfielders working with a coach in the outfield.
- Infield: two rounds of routine grounders, then double-play feeds
- Outfield: drop steps, crow-hop throws to a cut-off
Coaching points
- Charge the ball under control
- Hit the cut-off man chest high
4. Water break
Water break
3 min37:00 - 40:00
5. Drill
Hitting rotation
25 min40:00 - 65:00
Four groups rotate every 6 minutes: cage, tee, soft-toss, and short-bunting station.
- Cage: live arm or machine, 8 swings per round
- Tee: low and away, inside pitch work
- Soft-toss: quick hands, line drives
- Bunting: sacrifice and drag bunts
Coaching points
- Hard contact, not big swings
- Stay through the middle of the field
6. Competition
Situational scrimmage
20 min65:00 - 85:00
Defense in the field, offense rotating hitters with runners starting on base.
- Run first-and-third, runner on second with no outs, bases loaded
- Defense calls the play before each pitch
Coaching points
- Communicate before the pitch
- Know where the ball goes before it's hit
Make it harder: Add a count to each situation (2-1, 3-2) so hitters make real decisions.
7. Cool-down
Conditioning and team talk
5 min85:00 - 90:00
- Foul-pole to foul-pole runs as needed
- Quick review of tomorrow's game plan
Coaching points
- Keep the talk to two points
Coach's notes
Pitchers should throw on their own schedule, not every day. Track pitch counts and keep bullpens separate from position-player drills. How to adapt this plan
- For a 2-hour practice, add a full live batting practice round.
- Indoors, swap the scrimmage for situational walk-throughs in the gym.
